Ladakh, popularly known as, the land of numerous passes of mystic Lamas, The Broken moon & The Last Shangrila.

Ladakh is bounded by two of the world's highest Mountain ranges, the Karakoram & great Himalaya.

The region varies between 9,000 to 11,000 ft. above the sea level. Leh is the headquarter of Leh District & largest town of the region. Leh is located to the north of the Indus River at an elevation of 11,000 ft. Leh became the capital of Stud(Upper Ladakh) during the reign of King Graspa Bum_Lde.

The town is dominated by the nine storey Namgyal Palace & Namgyal Tsemo (victory peak), above the Palace, built by Tashi Namgyal on his victorious reunification of the Upper & Loawer Ladakh.

The earliest inhabitants of Ladakh were the Khampa nomads who domesticated yaks. The first settlement along the Indus River was established by Monks from the region of Kullu & other tribes called the Brokpas originating from Gilgit. Gya became the Ist seat of government of the Mon rulers, who was known by the name of Gyapacho.
